Unlocking Lucrative VFX and Animation Careers: Kerala’s Thrust on VFX and Animation Jobs
In a dynamic move, Kerala is strategically shifting its focus to harness the potential of Animation, VFX, and Gaming, aiming to ignite a surge in VFX and animation jobs opportunities and cultivate a flourishing industry.
KOCHI:
The State Government is steering its attention towards the realm of AVGC-XR (Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics, and Extended Reality), recognizing its immense potential to nurture a thriving sector and generate a plethora of career openings.
During a recent visit to Kochi, Chief Secretary V Venu reiterated the government’s resolve to amplify the significance of this burgeoning field within the state. “Animation, visual effects, gaming, comics, and extended reality hold boundless potential for the future. Our state boasts a vibrant pool of young talents who are making waves globally in this industry,” Venu articulated while inaugurating a notable event.
Ashish Kulkarni, the esteemed Chairman of FICCI AVGC Forum, lauded the abundance of skillful individuals in Kerala endowed with a fervor for caricature, painting, and akin aptitudes. “Technological strides have served as a boon for these youth and film industry technicians alike. A considerable number of individuals now contribute to the Malayalam film industry as accomplished art directors and technicians. With the march of technology, they’ve been bestowed with the opportunity to chart new horizons,” he elaborated.
The rise of prominent animation conglomerates and the establishment of niche studios within the state have significantly elevated the prowess of Malayalees in this domain. “While the majority of animation companies traditionally thrive in metropolises like Pune, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, or Hyderabad, they’ve since recognized the exceptional talent pool in Kerala and have extended their footprint here,” remarked Ashish.
Recent years have witnessed the emergence of animation and VFX powerhouses such as Vismaya Max, Philm CGI, and Zibu in the heart of Kerala. Ashish noted, “A multitude of boutique studios are sprouting across Kerala, offering local talents a unique avenue to flourish.” This expansion has provided countless professionals with the opportunity to contribute to both national and international projects while remaining anchored in their homeland. Shybu Mundakkal, the visionary director of Vismaya Max, underscored the surging number of AVGC-XR companies and institutions in the state.
P Jayakumar, the visionary CEO of Toonz Media Group, hailed the policy-level strides taken by both Union and state administrations in integrating animation and VFX courses into the academic curriculum, deeming it a transformative step. “This shift will empower aspiring students to cultivate skills and embark on enriching careers within the industry,” Jayakumar asserted, championing the swift implementation of AVGC-XR task force recommendations.
Given the ever-evolving nature of this realm, a commitment to continual updates is indispensable. Shybu emphasized India’s pivotal role as an AVGC-XR hub, frequently entrusted with projects from global giants like Disney. “Talented individuals can engage in freelance collaborations with such conglomerates. The placement rates for jobs are exceedingly promising. However, maintaining up-to-date expertise is pivotal,” he emphasized.
