Marvel Studios VFX head Victoria Alonso is stepping away

Victoria Alonso, the head of VFX and post-production at Marvel Studios, has announced her sudden departure from the studio after 17 years. While her name will still appear in the credits of upcoming Marvel projects, including Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, The Marvels, and Secret Invasion, Alonso has decided it is time for her to move on.

Alonso started her career at Marvel as the executive vice president of visual effects and post-production before becoming the department’s president. She played a critical role in shaping the Marvel Cinematic Universe, serving as a co-producer on several of the studio’s earliest films, such as Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America: The First Avenger. In 2012, she was promoted to an executive producer and oversaw all of the studio’s features and series.

While the reason for Alonso’s departure has not been disclosed, her exit comes at a time when Marvel’s recent projects have received criticism for their VFX. The studio’s long-term success has also been a focus of discussion, with Disney CEO Bob Iger indicating that the company may not continue to produce third or fourth franchise installments.

Despite the uncertainty, Marvel remains one of the biggest players in the entertainment industry, and fans eagerly await the release of their upcoming projects, which will undoubtedly showcase the talents of the studio’s dedicated VFX team.
