Netflix has announced that it will be adapting the popular video game, Gears of War, into a live-action feature film, followed by an adult animated series, with potential for further stories. Jon Spaihts, known for his work on Dune and Doctor Strange, will write the film. The Coalition will produce the upcoming feature film.
With over 40 million copies sold, Gears of War is one of the most successful and highly-regarded video game franchises of all time. The game is set in a society that is divided and on the brink of collapse, facing extinction by the Locust, a monstrous threat from below. Delta Squad, a ragtag fireteam led by disgraced sergeant Marcus Fenix, is charged with leading humanity’s last stand.
Gears of War has been critically acclaimed for redefining the tactical third-person and co-operative shooter genre and boasts one of gaming’s most passionate fan bases.
