The shortlists span 12 categories, including Visual Effects, Sound, Original Song, Original Score, Cinematography, International Feature Film, Documentary Feature, and the newly established Best Casting category. Films Leading the Oscar 2026 Shortlists Two films have emerged as the early leaders: Wicked: For Good and Sinners. Both titles are the only feature films this year to appear on every shortlist for which they were eligible, earning seven shortlist mentions each. Their dominance extends across technical, music, and craft categories, signaling broad, cross-branch support within the Academy. Frankenstein follows closely with six shortlist mentions, landing in nearly all the categories it qualified for, missing only Original Song. Strong showings were also recorded by F1, One Battle After Another, and Spain’s Sirât, each of which earned five shortlist placements. Sirât stands out in particular as the most widely embraced international contender, receiving recognition beyond the International Feature Film category. Visual Effects Shortlist Highlights Major Franchise Contenders The Best Visual Effects shortlist underscores the Academy’s continued focus on large-scale, effects-driven filmmaking. Returning to the race is James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash, which once again secured a place among the top VFX contenders. The film joins a competitive lineup that includes Wicked: For Good, Sinners, Tron: Ares, Superman, Frankenstein, Jurassic World Rebirth, The Electric State, F1, and The Lost Bus. Despite its strong performance in Visual Effects and Sound, Avatar: Fire and Ash did not advance to the newly introduced Cinematography shortlist, continuing a trend seen with Avatar: The Way of Water, which was similarly overlooked in that category despite its technical acclaim. Cinematography Receives Its First-Ever Oscar Shortlist In a significant change to the awards process, the Academy introduced shortlists for Best Cinematography for the first time. This move places the category alongside other craft disciplines that receive early consideration and visibility. Films advancing in Cinematography include F1, Frankenstein, Sinners, Sirât, Wicked: For Good, and Marty Supreme, among others. Music Categories See Familiar Names and Multiple Entries The Original Song and Original Score shortlists once again spotlight veteran songwriter Diane Warren, whose song “Dear Me” from Diane Warren: Relentless advanced in the Original Song race. If nominated, the track would mark Warren’s 17th Academy Award nomination, extending her record as the most-nominated songwriter in Oscar history. The film’s score also made the shortlist, reinforcing the music branch’s consistent support for Warren’s work. Both Wicked: For Good and Sinners earned two Original Song shortlist entries each, a rare achievement that highlights their strength in the music categories. International Feature Film and Global Representation The International Feature Film shortlist includes a landmark moment for Iraq, with The President’s Cake becoming the country’s first film to advance to this stage of Oscar voting. Spain’s Sirât emerged as the strongest international performer overall, securing shortlist mentions in multiple categories. Notably, seven of the 15 international films shortlisted are directed by women, reflecting a particularly strong year for female filmmakers on the global stage. Documentary Feature Delivers Predictable Surprises As in previous years, the Documentary branch charted its own course. Several high-profile and critically praised documentaries, including Mariska Hargitay’s My Mom Jayne and Raoul Peck’s Orwell: 2+2=5, failed to make the shortlist. The omissions continue the branch’s longstanding tendency to favor politically and socially driven narratives over celebrity- or entertainment-focused subjects. What’s Next in the Oscars 2026 Timeline Oscar nomination voting will take place from January 12 through January 16, 2026, with the official nominations set to be announced on January 22, 2026. The 98th Academy Awards ceremony will be held on Sunday, March 15, 2026, bringing an awards season shaped early by strong showings in Visual Effects, Sound, Music, and Craft categories. With momentum building across multiple branches, Wicked: For Good, Sinners, Frankenstein, and Avatar: Fire and Ash have firmly established themselves as the key films to watch as the 2026 Oscar race intensifies. ### Mr X VFX Studio is back Mr X VFX Studio Returns Under Dennis Berardi with Bold Relaunch The legendary visual effects house Mr X VFX Studio is officially making a comeback. Once thought to be a name buried in the past, Mr. X is re-entering the VFX spotlight following the collapse of the Technicolor group. The revival is led by founder Dennis Berardi, who has reclaimed the brand he built from the ground up and is breathing new life into it with an independent vision. Originally launched in 2001, Mr. X quickly established itself as a force in the visual effects industry. Under Berardi’s leadership, the studio worked on major titles like Vikings, Penny Dreadful, Godzilla, X-Men: Days of Future Past, and Maleficent. In 2014, Mr. X was acquired by Technicolor, a move that eventually saw the studio fade into the background as Technicolor prioritized its flagship brands: MPC, The Mill, and Mikros Animation. By 2021, Berardi had left the group to start a new venture, Herne Hill Media. Years of corporate restructuring and financial instability within Technicolor led to the shutdown or sale of many of its creative divisions. This disruption created the perfect opportunity for Berardi to buy back the Mr. X name and reposition the studio on his own terms. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Berardi announced that Herne Hill Media will now officially rebrand as Mr. X, marking a new chapter for the company—and the industry. Mr. X’s revival is more than a name change; it’s a return to artist-first storytelling. The newly reformed studio boasts a team of over 100 artists, including more than 60 who were part of the original Mr X VFX Studio. The vision is clear: prioritize creativity, independence, and collaboration in a way that’s often lost in large-scale corporate structures. “Mr. X was built on the belief that great visual effects are more than technology—they’re storytelling at its most ambitious,” Berardi said. “This relaunch is about reclaiming our independence and putting artists back at the center of everything we do.” The first project of this new era is a high-profile one. Mr X VFX Studio will handle visual effects for Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, set to premiere on Netflix on October 17, 2025. The collaboration comes as no surprise, given Berardi’s long-standing creative partnership with del Toro on films such as The Shape of Water. This new project not only marks Mr. X’s return but also solidifies its place among the top-tier visual effects studios operating today. The leadership team behind the reboot includes Berardi as Founder, Creative Director, and VFX Supervisor. He is joined by Dave Sauro as Executive Producer, Mark Hammond and Ben King as VFX Supervisors, Brandon Schaafsma as Head of Production, and Jordan Nieuwland as Art Director. Together, they bring a strong combination of legacy knowledge and forward-thinking creativity to the reimagined studio. For those in the visual effects world—and especially for aspiring artists and students—the return of Mr. X sends a powerful message. It proves that even in an era dominated by corporate consolidation, creativity and artistic vision can still reclaim their place. The new Mr. X is not just back; it’s positioned to lead the next wave of storytelling in visual effects. https://youtu.be/x--N03NO130?si=8VnDcBFtQ1-JWOq1 ### Jurassic World Rebirth VFX Breakdowns The official VFX breakdowns for Jurassic World Rebirth are finally here — giving fans and film professionals a chance to go behind the scenes of the epic dinosaur-filled adventure. Plexusmotion's Motion Design Directors, Vijesh Rajan and Yashoda Parthasarthy, share insights into the process of crafting the iconic opening title sequence. They shed light on the initial brief, creative concepts, objectives, and the dynamic interplay between violence and craftsmanship.     Exploring Mirzapur's Opening Sequence for Prime Video Rajan and Parthasarthy start by revealing details about the initial brief received from the filmmakers. The brief outlined the series' setting—a city dominated by Akhandanand Tripathi (portrayed by Pankaj Tripathi), known as Kaleen Bhaiya, the influential "kingpin," with rival gangs in the backdrop. Kaleen Bhaiya's carpet-making business serves as a front for his illicit activities.     Given Mirzapur's thematic emphasis on violence, the directors proposed showcasing the intricate process of carpet-making alongside intense scenes from the series. This juxtaposition aimed to capture the dual reality of Kaleen Bhaiya and the city he controls. Notably, Mirzapur’s font and logo draw inspiration from the carpet-making process, featuring criss-cross edges reminiscent of a carpet's fabric.     Discover more: India’s VFX Revolution: Insights from Bhavesh Joshi Director and VFX Director on CGI Usage Mirzapur title track, described by Rajan as a "loud, unapologetic," and high-energy composition, presented a challenge for the VFX team. They recognized the need for a fast-paced sequence to complement the energetic title track.     Rajan and Parthasarthy also delve into two particularly impactful VFX scenes in the opening sequence—the man on fire and throat-cutting shot. Rajan expresses his apprehension about the latter, hoping it wouldn't make the final cut due to its disturbing nature.     ### Celebrating 30 Years of Digital Domain: VFX, Animation, and VR Evolution Digital Domain's Evolution in VFX, Animation, and VR: A journey of 30 Years of Digital Domain     Digital Domain, a trailblazing VFX studio that has stood the test of time, marks its impressive journey, 30 years of Digital Domain. With a star-studded cast that includes Srini, Jayaram, Anupam Kher in their Kannada debuts, Prashanth Nayak, and Archana Jois, Ghost promises to be a cinematic delight. But what truly sets this film apart is the groundbreaking use of technology-driven visual effects. In an exclusive interview, we caught up with VFX Supervisor Mohammad Abdi, who shared his insights and experiences in bringing this visually captivating project to life.     Q: How did you approach the process of de-aging Shivarajkumar’s character in the film? Mohammad Abdi: De-aging Shivarajkumar was a challenging yet exciting process. We started by digging into vintage images of the actor from old albums and films. These images were meticulously restored and then subjected to a detailed scan of Shivarajkumar's facial texture. The data obtained from this process served as the basis for creating a 3D model, which formed the foundation of our work. Every shot was unique, with its own set of challenges, demanding various methods to restore and reconstruct the actor's youthful appearance.     Q: Can you share insights into the techniques used to create the effects that play a significant role in the visual storytelling for Ghost? Mohammad Abdi: Visual effects played a crucial role in enhancing the narrative of Ghost. For instance, the character of the Mouse in the prison was a pivotal element in the screenplay and posed one of our most complex challenges. The prison itself was meticulously designed and constructed in 3D, with several scenes requiring recreation to maintain the film's integrity. Moments like the fiery Ferris wheel and the car crash with eerie hanging corpses were essential components of the storyline, and we had to meticulously recreate them.     Q: What were some of the unique challenges you faced in ASOO VFX in bringing an essence of suspense and intrigue to the film through your visual effects work? Mohammad Abdi: The biggest challenge our ASOO VFX team encountered in this project was the sheer volume of shots, each with its own unique complexities. The comprehensive 3D design of the intricately detailed prison setting was particularly challenging, as it played a significant role in the film's events. Aligning all recorded scenes with the 3D prison was a demanding task that required precision and dedication.     Q: Could you discuss the collaborative efforts between the VFX team and the director Srini, or other departments, to ensure that the visual effects are seamlessly integrated with the overall storytelling and atmosphere of the movie? Mohammad Abdi: Right from the beginning, our VFX team engaged in numerous meetings with the director, where he shared his screenplay and conceptual ideas. We, in turn, offered our suggestions, which he readily embraced, kickstarting the production process. The strong collaborative relationship between our team, the director, and the producer played a pivotal role in advancing the project, ensuring a seamless integration of visual effects with the film's overall storytelling and atmosphere.     Ghost promises to be a visual treat for moviegoers, thanks to the innovative and meticulous work of VFX Supervisor Mohammad Abdi and his dedicated team. The film's use of technology-driven visual effects adds an extra layer of excitement to this much-anticipated heist thriller.     Are you eager to be a part of exciting projects like Ghost as a VFX artist? That connection is Digikore Studios, a distinguished Indian Visual Effects (VFX) company with an impressive portfolio of over 200 global projects spanning across films and web series. And now, this trailblazing studio is gearing up to take its global presence to new heights by launching its VFX IPO.     After receiving the green light from NSE EMERGE, Digikore Studios is all set to go public. Mark your calendars because the IPO is scheduled to open on September 25, 2023, and conclude on September 27. The IPO aims to raise an impressive Rs 30.479 crore, and the price range is set between Rs 168-171.     Abhishek More, the visionary founder of Digikore, shared his exciting vision for the future: "The last six years have been good, and now it is time to go for the next step and grow in North America and create a base there. We want to position Digikore as a global company, which will help us get bigger international projects."     With aspirations to become a $25 million company by 2026, Digikore Studios is already making impressive strides. In the fiscal year 2023, they recorded revenue of Rs 33 crore and are on track to touch Rs 50 crore this year (FY24). Their ambitious target for 2026 is to achieve Rs 200 crore in revenue. While this may seem substantial in Indian terms, in the Canadian VFX industry, $25 million is considered mid-level, with studios reaching as high as $200-300 million.     Digikore's journey, as recounted by More, is a roller coaster ride of determination and resilience. "We eventually identified VFX in 2010 again, and it was early days for it then. I came to know that James Cameron is making Titanic 3D. I managed to get his email ID and started mailing him to get some work for his project. I sent him many emails and eventually landed with Titanic 3D as our first project as a VFX studio. That became my calling card, which helped me bag other projects."     However, they faced a challenge when they decided to work on Indian projects. "I got greedy for recognition, and that’s the first mistake I made in the VFX space. I wanted to see my company’s name on the big screen and decided to work on Indian projects. This turned out to be a big mistake. In 2013, we set up operations in Mumbai and got into Bollywood. We did projects like Haider, Talvar, and Bajrangi Bhaijaan. We turned a profit-making company into a loss-making one by 2016 because the revenues coming from the India projects were lower. We took the hard decision of shutting down the Bollywood business overnight in 2016 and started focusing on Hollywood again. Since 2016, I have only been looking at profits," the founder said.     Despite challenges, Digikore Studios persevered and saw remarkable growth, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. "In the first six to nine months of COVID, there was little to no business, and things became bad. The situation started settling down because of high content consumption, which led to increased content production. COVID saw millions of viewers get on to streaming platforms, which made them double their content spend. Even TV (broadcasters) upped their game and started producing more content. Films too have gotten bigger, and that means more VFX. All these factors have driven growth," he said.     One of the driving forces behind Digikore's growth has been the surge in over-the-top (OTT) platforms. In 2022, five global VFX giants, including ILM, entered or announced their entry into the Indian market. Last year alone, streaming platforms invested a staggering $60 billion in global original content production, as reported by FICCI-EY 2023.     For Digikore, 70 percent of its revenue comes from episodic content, including series for OTT and TV, while the remaining 30 percent is from films.     The heart of Digikore's success is its global outlook. "As of today, over 99 percent of revenue comes from outside India, and domestic business is less than 1 percent. Our growth will be in North America and not in India because budgets are very low in India, especially for episodic content," More explained.     While expanding operations with VFX studios in North America, Digikore Studios remains committed to its roots in India, where the bulk of its creative and production talent resides. "In North America, we would not have more than 25-30 key creative production talent. The majority of the delivery workforce will be from India which will make us price-competitive. We currently have 400 employees and by 2026 we have a roadmap to expand our team to a headcount of 900 in India," More said.     IPO Schedule IPO Size (in Rs crore) Price Range (Rs) September 25, 2023 - September 27, 2023 30.479 168-171     Stay tuned for more exciting updates as Digikore Studios continues its remarkable journey towards global recognition and success! ### The Magic Behind 1917 VFX : Unveiling the War-Time Illusion through VFX Breakdown Revolutionizing Cinematic Storytelling: The Spectacular Triumph of 1917 VFX In the world of cinema, visual effects (VFX) are often referred to as magic. They have the power to transport audiences to breathtaking worlds, create mind-blowing illusions, and enhance storytelling. In this VFX and animation blog post, we dive into the behind-the-scenes magic that brought the acclaimed film "1917" to life. Join us on a journey of discovery as we explore the challenges, innovations, and creative brilliance that made this single-take masterpiece a visual spectacle.   The speakers, Kranti Sharma and Vijay Selvam, highlighting their roles as the head of studio for MPC India and VFX supervisor at MPC Technicolor      The Single-Take Challenge: "1917" set out to achieve the ambitious goal of being a single-take movie. This meant that every detail, every effect had to seamlessly fit into a continuous shot. The initial brief for the project was clear: create a war-time epic using a single uninterrupted take. As the project unfolded, the excitement grew, and it became evident that this was no ordinary undertaking.     Creating the Illusion: One of the standout scenes in the movie involved a burning city filled with LED lights. The VFX team had to mimic the firelight, replace the cityscape, and ensure that everything played out naturally within the single-take framework. This required meticulous planning, coordination, and attention to detail.     The Art of Practical Elements: "1917" blended practical elements seamlessly with digital effects. Real fire, smoke, dust, and falling debris were used to create an authentic look and feel. These practical elements, when combined with expertly crafted CGI, made the war scenes feel incredibly realistic.     The No Man's Land Challenge: The movie's depiction of No Man's Land required extensive VFX work. The team had to extend the set with CGI, add fog and haze for mood, and painstakingly rotoscope each barbed wire, which turned out to be a formidable task.     The Technological Marvel: One of the most challenging aspects was the production itself. There was no precedent for a project of this magnitude and complexity. Every department had to work in perfect harmony to maintain continuity in the single-take format. The VFX team had to stitch together different plates, backgrounds, actors, and body parts to achieve the desired effect.     The Blood Stain Choreography: Even a simple bloodstain became a complex choreography in "1917." The VFX team had to meticulously track the blood's movement, integrate it with the actor's clothing, and ensure a seamless transition as the character's condition deteriorated.     The Recognition and Inspiration: The hard work paid off when "1917" received acclaim and nominations, including an Academy Award. For those involved, it was a testament to their dedication and innovation in the world of visual effects.     "1917" stands as a shining example of the magic that visual effects can bring to the world of cinema. It pushed the boundaries of filmmaking, showcasing the incredible capabilities of VFX artists and technicians. As we delve into the intricate details of its creation, we gain a deeper appreciation for the artistry and innovation that go into making cinematic masterpieces like "1917." Whether you're a film buff or an aspiring VFX artist, this breakdown of war-time illusion serves as an inspiring testament to the power of visual effects in storytelling. ### Digital Domain and PRG Join Forces Digital Domain and PRG : Empowering creativity and efficiency on Virtual and Post Production   In an exciting development, the renowned visual effects company Digital Domain and the Production Resource Group - PRG have come together to elevate the spectrum of offerings within the VFX and animation industry. Fans have eagerly awaited this cinematic masterpiece, which promises to surpass its predecessor in both visual spectacle and storytelling. Director James Wan, known for his visionary work in films like "Malignant" and "Saw," has taken the aquatic adventure to new heights.     The recent trailer for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom VFX, left fans in awe, offering a glimpse of what's to come. Giant seahorses soaring through the depths, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II vowing to challenge Aquaman, and breathtaking underwater explosions illuminated in vibrant green and purple hues have set the stage for an epic sequel. During an exclusive trailer reveal event attended by Jenna Busch-Henderson, James Wan shared insights into the making of the film, including advancements in visual and special effects. Wan's commitment to pushing the boundaries of filmmaking extends to ensuring the comfort and safety of the actors who portray the royal Atlantean court and their adversaries.     Elevating Actor Comfort Directors like James Wan understand the importance of making challenging stunts appear effortless on screen while keeping the actors comfortable. If a viewer perceives that a stunt is taxing for an actor, it can detract from the film's realism, just as poor VFX can. Creating a movie like "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom" involves assembling an exceptional team of VFX and motion graphics artists and leveraging technology to achieve naturalistic performances.     Wan revealed that there has been a significant leap in effects from the first "Aquaman" film to "Lost Kingdom." However, the most noteworthy improvement was in the way they approached filming.   Wan explained: "The actors faced significant challenges during the first film due to complex rigging that often caused discomfort. This time, we've managed to free them from these constraints. My special effects and visual effects team listened to my concerns from the first movie and helped me devise a process that allowed us to achieve the same high-quality results without subjecting the actors to unnecessary discomfort. As a result, we were able to capture even better performances."     With enhanced technology, the actors can now deliver their best performances without physical constraints. A video from the YouTube channel Fame Focus in 2021 offered a behind-the-scenes look at the rigging that Wan referred to. When people critique or discuss VFX, they often associate it with purely computer-generated effects. However, in "Aquaman" and "Lost Kingdom," the epic underwater sequences involving Jason Momoa, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Amber Heard are brought to life through a combination of mechanical rigging, blue-screened stunt assistance, and digital effects. Observing behind-the-scenes clips of the cast being maneuvered on mechanical rigs while dressed in skin-tight costumes and soaked with water, it becomes clear how Wan's goal of liberating them from discomfort has been achieved.     To witness the impact of this newfound freedom on the core cast's performances, mark your calendars for the release of "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom" on December 20, 2023. In the meantime, savor the excitement by revisiting the mesmerizing new trailer – a testament to the fusion of cutting-edge technology and actor-centric filmmaking."   Enroll for our VFX course and grab an opportunity to work in top Hollywood movies like Aquaman. ### Time to Illuminate VFX - Visual Effects Society "Visual Effects Society Responds to Complaints of Studios Underplaying VFX Work: It’s “Time to Illuminate VFX” The esteemed society has issued an uncommon reproach following The Hollywood Reporter's revelation of the tendency to overlook VFX contributions in the promotion of major cinematic spectacles.     The Visual Effects Society, representing a substantial 4,500 members across 45 nations, emphatically asserts that VFX artists "merit the recognition they rightfully deserve."     In response to The Hollywood Reporter's article dated September 1, entitled "VFX Pros Expose the Hidden Costs of Selling a Movie as ‘Real’," which delves into the practice of filmmakers and studio marketing teams emphasizing the authenticity of their productions, the Visual Effects Society has released an official statement. This phenomenon, however, often fails to provide a comprehensive picture. According to sources cited in THR's report, there have been instances where a deliberate strategy was employed to downplay VFX in movie marketing, resulting in diminished acknowledgment for the dedicated professionals behind these visual marvels.     A portion of the VES statement reads, "Respect and acknowledgment for visual effects artists has been a long-standing issue within the global entertainment industry and this story unveiled a reality that many of our members and VFX practitioners have grappled with for years."     One source quoted in the original THR article conceded that at times, there is a clear directive stating, "There will be no discussion of VFX... We don't wish to overshadow the actors or disrupt the illusion that someone performed all of these stunts." Another veteran from the VFX segment of the Film Academy expressed, "It has reached a point where this is preventing people from receiving nominations and Academy Awards."     The complete statement from the VES is as follows: Respect and acknowledgment for visual effects artists have long been contentious issues within the global entertainment industry — and this story ("VFX Pros Expose the Hidden Costs of Selling a Movie as ‘Real’" dated September 1, 2023) has unveiled a reality that many of our members and VFX practitioners have been grappling with for years. Once seen as a postproduction role, visual effects professionals are now integral members of the "first on/last off" essential crew, with VFX playing an indispensable and pervasive role in the creative process. It is through the artistry and innovation of VFX that stories once considered impossible come to life. VFX artists rightfully deserve to be acknowledged and celebrated for their monumental contributions to cinematic storytelling and substantial financial success, just like any other craft that plays a pivotal role in creative collaboration. They should not be minimized or relegated to obscurity as if they detract from the illusion of "pure" filmmaking. Speaking with a unified voice on behalf of our 4,500-plus members spanning 45 countries worldwide — visual effects artists take immense pride in their work, their craftsmanship, and their ability to harness technology in service of storytelling. They take great pride in collaborating to bring visually breathtaking narratives to the screen, captivating audiences. And they unquestionably deserve recognition commensurate with their vital role in the industry. The time has come to shed light on visual effects and acknowledge the remarkable achievements we can attain together." ### SALAAR VFX Update: Delayed Release Due to pending 300 Shots Salaar VFX: Transforming Indian Cinema Through Cutting-Edge VFX and Animation   Prabhas and Prashant Neel's highly-anticipated movie, "Salaar," has created ripples in the world of VFX and animation. This exciting development comes through the launch of the Unity Weta Tools division, a comprehensive toolkit designed to revolutionize 3D creation, simulation, and rendering for both gaming and cinematic productions.     The masterminds behind iconic visuals in blockbusters like Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings and James Cameron's Avatar franchises, Weta FX, are now collaborating with Unity to bring some of their specialized 2D and 3D tools to a broader audience within the expansive VFX industry. Announced during the Siggraph 2023 keynote, Unity's partnership with Weta is set to make waves, as it integrates Weta's industry-leading compositing and character creation tools into the Unity real-time game development engine.     This milestone builds upon Unity 3D's acquisition of Weta's VFX division back in 2021, paving the way for the public release of several Weta tools under the new Unity Weta Tools division. Among the stars of this release is Wig 1.0, an Autodesk Maya add-on renowned for its prowess in crafting lifelike hair and fur. Additionally, Eddy 3.0 steps into the limelight, offering unparalleled capabilities in processing volumetric effects such as smoke and fire through Nuke. Rounding out this game-changing lineup is Deep Compositing, enriching composition tools within Nuke with a newfound sense of depth and dimensionality.     Timoni West, the visionary Vice President of Unity Weta Tools, highlights the groundbreaking nature of this collaboration, stating, "These tools were previously confined to Weta's exclusive pipeline, but now they're accessible to creatives everywhere." This democratization of tools is set to empower artists and studios across the industry, unleashing their potential to expedite production and elevate the quality of their visual creations.     To put this achievement into context, major players in the film and gaming sectors have traditionally relied on proprietary tools to realize their creative visions. Notable examples include Pixar's RenderMan, instrumental in bringing Toy Story to life, and Weta's own award-winning toolkit for simulating water in Avatar: Way of the Water. As Timoni West explains, "These tools have been rigorously tested in real productions. Our mission is to make them available to a wider audience, accelerating their creative processes."     Unity's commitment extends beyond introducing Weta's tools; updated versions of existing apps are also making their way into the Unity Weta Tools suite. Ziva, renowned for its prowess in animating soft tissue like human faces and moving animals, and SpeedTree, the go-to choice for crafting lifelike trees and environmental foliage, have received enhanced iterations within this revolutionary toolkit. Notably, the inclusion of the Wig software underscores Weta's unrivaled expertise in simulating hair and fur, a hallmark seen in cinematic gems like King Kong (2005) and The Jungle Book (2016).     "We embarked on this journey recognizing the challenges faced by teams striving to create cinematic masterpieces and groundbreaking video games with limited resources," says Timoni West. She points to the example of the awe-inspiring "Everything Everywhere All At Once," a feat achieved by a small, dedicated team. With Unity Weta Tools at their disposal, such teams can unlock greater efficiency and creativity, ushering in a new era of cinematic excellence.     Unity's far-reaching influence spans beyond the realm of gaming, permeating industries such as VR, animation, movie effects, automotive design, and architecture. Let's delve into the captivating world of animation and VFX in this biopic and uncover the untold story of the VFX crew's remarkable contributions.   The full list of the VFX crew on Oppenheimer from Dneg. pic.twitter.com/g24GGkfxKU— dasNeves.vfx (@dasNeves_vfx) July 23, 2023   While Christopher Nolan proudly emphasized the absence of CGI in recreating the nuclear explosion and other intricate elements, it's essential to clarify that digital VFX by Double Negative did play a significant role in the film. Employing the concept of 'invisible VFX,' often seen in period films and adult dramas, the team aimed to enhance the setting's authenticity without overshadowing the narrative, unlike typical superhero and action movies.     The renowned VFX studio, DNEG, collaborated with Nolan for the eighth time, and together they masterfully brought the explosive scenes to life through practical effects. One crucial aspect involved compositing, where production VFX supervisor Andrew Jackson worked closely with the SFX crew to develop simulations and effects. Shooting an extensive library of elements, they captured real explosions at high speed, later combining multiple layers of footage during post-production. The result was a seamless blend of real elements, keeping the VFX grounded in reality and maintaining the raw essence of the film.     However, despite the crucial role played by over 160 VFX artists, the film's credits only listed 27 names, including VFX supervisor Andrew Jackson. This oversight has sparked controversy within the industry, with many animators and VFX experts expressing their dismay on social media. DNEG confirmed that approximately 80% of the VFX team went uncredited, raising questions about the reasoning behind this omission.     The issue of uncredited VFX artists isn't limited to 'Oppenheimer' alone; it's an unfortunate common practice in the industry, with several major Hollywood productions overlooking the contributions of these skilled professionals. While CGI and VFX are often used interchangeably, they are distinct entities. CGI refers to computer-generated imagery, while VFX encompasses various visual effects and enhancements added during post-production to create dynamic and authentic on-screen experiences.     'Oppenheimer' has proven to be a resounding success at the box office, exceeding global projections and receiving an overwhelming 96% positive reception, making it one of the highest rated films of 2023. However, despite its triumphs, the uncredited VFX artists remain a poignant reminder of the need for greater recognition and respect for the contributions of animation and VFX professionals in the industry.     As audiences continue to be captivated by the magic of 'Oppenheimer' on the big screen, it is crucial to acknowledge the collaborative efforts of the VFX crew who contributed their artistic talents behind the scenes of Oppenheimer. Only by recognizing and honoring their work can we truly appreciate the wonders that animation and VFX bring to the cinematic world.     In conclusion, 'Oppenheimer' stands as a testament to the power of practical effects and invisible VFX, showcasing the talents of VFX artists in creating awe-inspiring visual experiences. Let us celebrate their work and strive for a future where these unsung heroes are rightfully acknowledged for their invaluable contributions to the world of animation and VFX." ### Indian 2 VFX : Director Shankar shares exciting update Director Shankar Shares Exciting Indian 2 VFX Update : Marvelous Visual Effects by Lola VFX US Ltd Wait for Indian 2 VFX update is over..! Directed by the visionary Pete Sohn, the film delves into the intriguing concept of elements with feelings coexisting in a society. However, Elemental's aesthetics take a departure from the usual Pixar style, exploring profound themes like immigration and racial discrimination while showcasing a heartwarming romance between Ember Lumen (Leah Lewis), a fiery being, and Wade Ripple (Mamoudou Athie), composed of water. In a fascinating conversation with Filmfare, Sanjay Bakshi, Elemental's accomplished VFX Supervisor renowned for his work on The Good Dinosaur and Onward, unveils the intricate details of the film's mesmerizing visuals.     Q: What was the director's vision for the project? A: Having worked closely with Pete Sohn in the past, we engaged in early discussions about the story and its connections to his personal experiences as an immigrant. Pete wanted to convey the emotional journey of moving to a new city, drawing parallels with his parents' own immigration story. As someone who also relocated from India to Canada, I could relate to that experience. Our conversations revolved around finding relatable and universal elements within our personal encounters.     Q: The visuals in Elemental distinguish it from other Pixar movies. What were your creative experiments? A: Thank you for acknowledging that distinction; it was indeed our intention to create a unique visual identity. Our goal was to strike a balance between realism and stylization. Pete aimed for a medium that didn't resemble a comic book or graphic novel but was firmly grounded in the realm of computer graphics. Notice the dynamic and mobile outline work on Ember's face, which emulates pencil strokes, or the line work on Wade's silhouette, inspired by the meniscus effect in water. We sought to capture the essence of different mediums while crafting an original computer-generated aesthetic.     Q: How did the initial visuals of the elements evolve throughout the production process? A: That's an intriguing question. The early iterations of Wade looked considerably different from the final version featured in the film. Achieving a watery appearance for his character demanded extensive efforts, including meticulous work on his facial expressions. As we progressed with animation, we realized that certain visual elements overwhelmed the overall performance. Consequently, we had to dial back some effects, leaving them for other parts of Wade's body. This adjustment ensured he retained a watery essence while delivering the nuanced acting required for his character.     Q: What was the key to creating Ember's fiery look without making it intimidating? A: To stylize Ember, we implemented a technique called pyro simulation to simulate heat. Fire possesses an entrancing and ever-changing quality that can captivate viewers for hours. However, if we applied that level of dynamism to Ember's head, it would have become visually distracting. Our solution involved using neural-style transfer to organize the flames, simplifying them into carefully painted shapes. This approach enabled us to strike a balance between dynamism and stylization while unlocking Ember's unique visual identity.     Q: Did any movies serve as references during the creative process? A: Absolutely! Pete is a cinephile with a profound love for cinema. We drew inspiration from the works of Hayao Miyazaki, particularly Calcifer, a character known for his humorous and 2D-cartoony attributes. We aimed to incorporate similar characteristics into our fire character while maintaining a sense of realism. Additionally, we explored immigration-themed movies like The Godfather Part II, which features a captivating sequence depicting Vito Corleone's journey to Italy and his experience at Ellis Island. Although Bollywood movies had fewer references, we aimed to create a universally relatable cinematic experience.     Q: The music in Elemental seemed to feature Indian instruments. Was that intentional? A: Initially, we drew inspiration from a few Indian films, reflecting their cultural influence on the music. However, as the creative process evolved, we gradually shifted toward a more universal approach. The intention was to create a musical composition that defies pinpointing its origin to a specific country, fostering a greater sense of relatability for audiences worldwide.     Q: How has Pixar animation transformed over the years? A: Pixar's animation has undergone significant evolution. Elemental presented me with the most demanding technical challenges to date. The industry is constantly changing, and I appreciate the recent trend of films moving away from strict realism and embracing stylization. Films like Spider-Verse exemplify this shift effectively. In Elemental, our goal was to craft an imaginative world that captivates audiences without overwhelming them with excessive colors or boldness. I hope this trend continues, allowing animated movies to push artistic boundaries further.     ### Digital Domain excels new frontiers in Malaysia Digital Domain VFX Soars to New Heights with Expansion into Malaysia: A Positive Leap for Global Creative Powerhouse   Experience the magic of hearing beloved songs from the past performed by legendary Taiwanese singer Teresa Teng, who left us in 1995. Thanks to Digital Domain, a global visual effects company, this dream is turning into reality through their decade-long investment in AI-powered humans that can authentically sound and look like real people.   Digital Domain, founded by renowned Hollywood director James Cameron three decades ago and currently led by Malaysian-born Daniel Seah, has made significant contributions to the visual effects of numerous blockbuster movies such as Titanic, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe, including the beloved Avengers franchise.   Today, Digital Domain stands as one of the largest independent visual effects studios, with offices in 10 countries, including the United States, Canada, China, and India.   Since 2016, the company has embraced the power of artificial intelligence and virtual reality, creating stunningly realistic and emotionally expressive virtual humans in real-time. One of their earliest triumphs was bringing the late Teresa Teng back to life as a hologram, allowing her to perform three songs alongside singer Jay Chou at a concert in Taipei in 2013.   Virtual Teresa Teng   Fast-forward to the present day, and the AI-driven virtual human technology has become an indispensable tool. During the pandemic, Digital Domain utilized this technology to enhance various Hollywood movies and commercials, overcoming challenges when actors couldn't physically be present on set or when additional scenes were needed during post-production.   Daniel Seah, during his visit to Kuala Lumpur on June 12, expressed his belief in the broader application of this technology beyond the entertainment industry. Virtual humans have the potential to interact with people in fields such as education, medicine, and hospitality, creating meaningful connections.   For instance, imagine Elsa from Frozen teaching students in China to speak English, or Teresa Teng engaging in sincere and impactful conversations with elderly patients in hospitals. These virtual humans can provide a sense of care and support.   However, Seah acknowledges the potential for misuse, fraud, and copyright issues that come with such advanced technology. He emphasizes the importance of lawmakers establishing effective guidelines to address these concerns.   Seah recounts instances where Digital Domain rejected requests from political parties in the US to create smear campaign ads and navigated delicate negotiations with Teresa Teng's brother to honor her legacy. Digital Domain took on the entire cost of the hologram for the Jay Chou concert, a risk that paid off when her brother was moved to see her on stage once again.   Seah believes that technology, when used responsibly, can bring about positive social impacts. He highlights Digital Domain's commitment to maintaining integrity and refusing business opportunities, such as endorsing products or engaging in live streaming, even though they have the rights to Teresa Teng. They uphold their own rules of engagement and prioritize ethical considerations.   Driven by their integrity and recognizing the strategic significance of Southeast Asia, Seah is actively seeking partnerships to establish a media lab for research and development in Malaysia or Singapore. He views this region as a neutral ground, conducive to collaboration with both China and the US.   Digital Domain aims to collaborate with top-tier universities, professors, and graduate students, mirroring their successful partnership with the University of Southern California. Investing in universities not only yields substantial returns but also nurtures the talents of future employees. Seah sees great potential in Malaysia's excellent universities and proposes setting up a media lab with government support, initially employing 30 to 40 people and expanding from there.   Seah's visit to Malaysia left him optimistic, having met with officials from the Science, Technology, and Innovations Ministry and engaging with the team at Taylor's University. The vision of a media lab in Malaysia is within reach, and with the right support, it can become a beautiful strategy for all involved.   Digital Domain was involved in the making of a commercial which showed an aged David Beckham. ### Ramayana VFX : Double Negative Takes Charge of Nitesh Tiwari's next   A Visionary Collaboration: Nitesh Tiwari and Namit Malhotra Join Forces for Ramayana VFX   Director Nitesh Tiwari and VFX expert and producer Namit Malhotra are teaming up with the renowned Double Negative VFX to create a grand cinematic experience with the legendary tale of Ramayana VFX. An Interview with PlatePros   Have you ever wondered how those jaw-dropping visual effects (VFX) in movies are created? Behind every mesmerizing scene, there is a team of talented professionals working diligently to capture the perfect VFX plates. To get an inside look into the fascinating world of VFX plate creation, we interviewed the experts at PlatePros, a renowned company specializing in VFX plate production. In this interview, they reveal the intricacies of their craft and provide insights into the process of making VFX plates.     Q: Can you explain what VFX plates are and why they are crucial in visual effects? A: VFX plates are the foundational elements used by visual effects artists to integrate computer-generated imagery (CGI) with live-action footage. They serve as a reference for accurately placing and aligning the CGI elements within a scene. VFX plates are typically high-resolution video or image sequences captured on set using specialized cameras. They provide a clean background without any visual effects, allowing VFX artists to seamlessly composite CGI elements into the footage. VFX plates are crucial because they form the basis for creating realistic and convincing visual effects that seamlessly blend with the live-action footage.     Q: How do you go about capturing VFX plates on set? A: The process of capturing VFX plates requires careful planning and coordination with the film production team. We collaborate closely with the cinematographer and director to determine the specific shots that will require VFX elements. Once identified, we set up our cameras and work closely with the camera department to ensure proper synchronization and calibration. We aim to capture the VFX plates under the same lighting conditions as the rest of the scene to maintain visual consistency. Our team also takes into account factors such as camera movement, lens choices, and frame rates to capture the plates accurately.     Q: Could you explain the post-production workflow involved in creating VFX plates? A: After capturing the VFX plates on set, the footage goes through an extensive post-production workflow. The first step is to carefully review and select the best takes for further processing. Our team then performs color correction and cleanup to ensure the plates match the desired look and feel of the scene. This includes removing any unwanted objects or imperfections that might interfere with the visual effects integration. We also ensure that the plates are properly tracked and stabilized to facilitate the seamless addition of CGI elements. Finally, the VFX plates are rendered out in the appropriate format for integration into the visual effects pipeline.     Q: What are some challenges you face in VFX plate production, and how do you overcome them? A: One of the significant challenges in VFX plate production is maintaining consistency and continuity throughout the process. It is crucial to match the lighting, perspective, and camera movements between the live-action footage and the VFX plates. Any discrepancies can make the visual effects appear unrealistic and jarring. To overcome this, we employ meticulous planning, on-set supervision, and thorough communication with the film production team. By closely coordinating with the cinematographer and director, we ensure that the VFX plates seamlessly integrate into the scene, enhancing the overall visual storytelling.     Q: Are there any recent technological advancements that have improved VFX plate production? A: Absolutely! Advancements in camera technology, such as high-resolution cameras with greater dynamic range, have significantly enhanced the quality of VFX plates. These advancements allow us to capture more detailed and realistic plates on set, providing visual effects artists with more information to work with. Additionally, the integration of virtual production techniques, like real-time compositing and on-set visualization, has revolutionized the way VFX plates are created. These technologies enable us to see the VFX elements in real-time during the shoot, ensuring better alignment with the live-action footage. Watch the full video here     Conclusion: The creation of VFX plates is a meticulous and collaborative process that forms the foundation for breathtaking visual effects in movies. The sequences, some featuring explosions and intricate action, were meticulously crafted, including the film's iconic two-minute one-shot scene perfectly synchronized to the beats of the Beastie Boys' "No Sleep Till Brooklyn."   Let's explore the behind-the-scenes process and the challenges faced by the VFX teams. Cosmo, the talking dog voiced by Maria Bakalova, posed a unique challenge for the team at Framestore. They used real dog photos and footage as references, but the transformation into a CG character required additional work due to Cosmo's ability to speak. To infuse emotion into Cosmo, they closely analyzed Bakalova's performance, ensuring her expressions translated seamlessly into the character. The decision to make Cosmo a golden retriever was inspired by a dog named Slate, who belonged to one of the film's producers. By leveraging Slate's mannerisms and expressions, the team achieved a lifelike portrayal of Cosmo.   The "stampede" sequence, where Mantis, the Guardians, and over 500 animals are rescued from the High Evolutionary's ship, posed significant technical challenges for Framestore. Crowd scenes are inherently complex, and adding fur to the creatures while making them interact realistically with each other and the Guardians required meticulous attention to detail. The team began working on the shots as soon as they received the commission, and it became the final shot delivered. Achieving believability was a crucial aspect, and the team employed CG for the animals and the Guardians' hands, replacing the original plate shots. The scene's complexity was further amplified by the explosion and separation of the two ships, resulting in a meticulous process of animating fur, turtles, monkeys on pigs, and other elements to create a visually stunning stampede.   Rocket's heartbreaking backstory unfolded through six different stages of the character's development. Framestore used the blend shape technique to animate Rocket's transition from being on all fours to becoming more humanoid. The baby version of Rocket drew inspiration from real raccoons, with the team adapting the character's emotional range and expression as he grew older. Stef Ceretti, production supervisor at Framestore, collaborated closely with director James Gunn to ensure a cohesive shooting style throughout the film. To achieve this, the team captured the motion of the cameras during the first two days of filming, allowing Gunn to maintain consistency in his shooting style and seamlessly merge live-action scenes with full CG sequences.   The film's third act, featuring the epic battle between the Guardians and the High Evolutionary, showcased the collaborative efforts of VFX supervisor Guy Williams and animation supervisor Michael Cozens from Weta FX. The battle, set to the iconic Beastie Boys track "No Sleep Till Brooklyn," presented a unique challenge in synchronizing the action with the music. The scene involved a two-minute uninterrupted shot, digitally stitched together from 18 separate shots. The coordination between VFX, stunt coordinators, and Gunn's direction was crucial in achieving flawless choreography and seamless transitions between live-action and digital characters. Maintaining the rhythm and synchronizing explosions and gunshots with the beats of the song demanded meticulous planning and execution.   The journey to bring "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" to life was a collaborative effort that involved immense creativity, technical expertise, and attention to detail. The film's VFX teams worked tirelessly to create memorable characters like Cosmo and Rocket, tackle complex action sequences, and synchronize the visuals with the film's music. Their dedication and innovative approach have elevated the cinematic experience, allowing audiences to immerse themselves in the cosmic world of the Guardians. ### Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania - Cutting edge VFX breakdown by MPC Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania | February 2023 | VFX breakdown Marvel Studios ushers in a new era with the highly anticipated film, "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania," marking the official beginning of Phase 5 in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, remote working has revolutionized the industry by removing these geographic barriers and increasing access to VFX work.   The latest report by UK Screen Alliance found that only 19% of the VFX industry is made up of people of color, and BAME representation accounts for just 14% of the workforce. Flexible work-from-home models have helped address this issue by providing a more accessible career option for diverse talent, removing unconscious bias and social barriers.   Remote working has become widely accepted in many industries due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Creative professionals have thrived with this work style and have become more productive. When collaborating in remote VFX working module, studios with flexible work environments can proactively increase diversity in VFX industry by presenting a more accessible career option for people looking to enter the industry.   Remote VFX working allows creative professionals to express their authentic selves, resulting in fresher ideas and happier individuals. VFX studios can access more talent from around the world, allowing them to take on work while having teams geographically closer to clients based anywhere in the world.   VFX supervisor Akca Elmas based in Istanbul has flourished creatively while working remotely from her home, interacting with teams across the globe. Similarly, Production Manager Mayumi Boruah, based in India, has been able to care for her young son while working remotely. Remote work has given these professionals the flexibility to maintain their lifestyle, family, and health while applying their talents to VFX projects.   The VFX industry needs to continue to embrace and grow their reliance on remote or flexible work to increase diversity in the field. The fusion of cultures and skills on projects creates more creative and technically excellent projects when working with a global team. ### Expert VFX Supervisor Andy Hargreaves Joins Ghost VFX Expert VFX Supervisor Andy Hargreaves Joins Ghost VFX’s London Studio for Animation and Post-Production Projects   Ghost VFX, a leading visual effects company owned by Streamland Media, has hired Andy Hargreaves as a VFX Supervisor for their London studio. This is a series of interviews with industry experts to discuss the challenges and opportunities of making low-budget films. In a recent interview, Director Ravikumar Ananthraj shared his insights on how to achieve quality results in VFX, animation, post-production, film editing, and video editing with limited resources.   Ravikumar Ananthraj is an accomplished VFX head with over a decade years of experience in the industry. He has worked on various blockbuster movies. During the interview, he discussed the importance of planning and execution, creativity, and the right tools to achieve great results.     Ravikumar Ananthraj on how he started Yathisai VFX "The producer of this project, K. J. Ganeshan, is the main reason behind this effort. He is a person with a clear understanding of cinema. When he decided to make this project, he chose me and instructed me on how to proceed. With over 20 years of experience in this field, he knew what he was doing, and I trusted him completely.   We began this journey from there. We did not lock the script in any creative area, regardless of the film's genre. If we did the pre-production work with clarity, we could reduce the VFX cost. We spent about 40-50 days on the pre-production work for this film, making it as detailed as possible. We had a clear idea of which scenes would require CG, so we had already completed the storyboard, heavy storyboard, and the color tone of the film.   After that, we moved on to the basics of animation and did the whole movie in detail. Then we split the film into action scenes and regular scenes, and went on to shoot them."     He also stated about how he handled budget for Yathisai VFX "In big movies, all lenses are used for shooting at all times. Whether they are used or not, money is spent on them. But we don't do it that way. We plan ahead and shoot the TV version first. Today, we only rent the lenses we need for the shoot. Note that in forest areas like Theni and Kambam, permission is granted for film crews to enter and shoot. Some people stay outside while others carry walkie-talkies to exchange information.   We finalize in the daily sheet that we will finish this scene with this camera in this many hours. Everyone in that sheet belongs to the film crew. Once shooting is finished on walkie-talkies, the information comes and the lenses and cameras with increased prices are ordered. This has reduced most of the expenses."       The 7th century saw the Pandya dynasty and a coalition army fight for supremacy in a small town, which became the inspiration for the film Yathisai.  Yathisai was well received by critics and audiences alike, and it showcased how a low-budget film can deliver excellent results in terms of storytelling, music, and VFX.   According to Ravikumar Ananthraj, the key to achieving quality results in VFX, animation, post-production, film editing, and video editing is to plan meticulously and execute it with precision. He suggested that a well-thought-out plan with a clear vision is essential to ensure that every penny spent goes towards achieving the desired outcome.   The director also stressed the importance of creativity in low-budget filmmaking. He said that creativity plays a significant role in making a low-budget film stand out. To illustrate his point, he cited the example of Yathisai, which had limited resources but stood out due to its unique storytelling, creative music, and VFX.   The right tools are another crucial factor in achieving quality results in VFX, animation, post-production, film editing, and video editing. Ravikumar Ananthraj said that technology has evolved significantly over the years, making it possible to achieve high-quality results with affordable tools. He mentioned that there are many open-source tools available that can help filmmakers achieve excellent results without spending a lot of money.   ### Breaking Down The Banshees Of Inisherin VFX : Union VFX Takes Us Behind The Scenes Union VFX Work on The Banshees of Inisherin VFX Receives Award Recognition Union's exceptional VFX work on Martin McDonagh's latest film, The Banshees of Inisherin, has received award recognition. The film was produced by Blueprint Pictures for Searchlight and Film 4 and was nominated for nine Academy Awards, winning four BAFTAs, including Outstanding British Film and Original Screenplay. The film also received three Golden Globes for Best Picture, Best Actor, and Best Screenplay. The Banshees of Inisherin is a beautiful balance of both tragedy and comedy set in 1920s Ireland. The film follows two men who’ve been friends for years and are going through a crisis that results in missing fingers. Union VFX team had their work cut out with the missing finger VFX. They created CG stumps of Brendan Gleeson’s fingers alongside the intricate movement and animation required to make it look realistic. Other visual effects included CG fire, an impressive lightning storm, a CG church bell, and the beautiful period matte painting that establishes the remote landscape in the film’s opening scene. As the sole VFX vendor on this feature, Union collaborated closely with McDonagh with Simon Hughes as their VFX Supervisor. Union came on board very early in the process and were on set for the shoot in Ireland in the middle of the pandemic. Hughes explained, ‘the biggest challenge was creating CG stumps of Brendan Gleeson’s fingers alongside the intricate movement and animation required. We had to make a CG version of the hand and work on the many complex hand movements involved to make it look realistic”. Director, Martin McDonagh commented: “I’ve worked with Union on two films now, Three Billboards and The Banshees of Inisherin, and have always found them to be brilliantly artistic collaborators, and a lot of fun!” Union's VFX work on The Banshees of Inisherin demonstrates their technical expertise and artistic collaboration with renowned directors and production companies. Their impressive VFX portfolio includes exceptional work on projects like For All Mankind, The Irregulars, Operation Mincemeat, Wheel of Time, Moon Knight, Pennyworth, and many more." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AOmWGvjtmtQ ### Adipurush VFX trends For improved visuals and stellar cast NYVFXWAALA Dissociates from Adipurush VFX, but Trailer Impresses with Improved VFX and Animation   The Adipurush VFX in trailer has been making waves on the internet due to its improved visuals and stellar cast. VFX supervisors Simon Jung and Dennis Yoo were the masterminds behind the show's impressive visuals, producing seamless animations and effects that bring the game's world to life.   One of the most impressive animations in the series was during the epic final scene in the fifth episode upon revealing the Bloater. Jung shared the details of producing the monsters and recreating the prosthetics, stating, "We created a whole army of Infected and used the Clickers that we built in the Bostonian as a base to build more variants of that. So, we had gender variants and ethnicity and different Cordyceps growth and all of that for our clickers. And then we did the same thing. We had scans for the Infected, so we did the same thing for them. We gave him different wardrobes and different skin tones and all of that. So, that helped us bulk all of that out."   Jung and Yoo's attention to detail allowed them to create a diverse army of Infected that added to the realism of the show's world. The Bloater, another impressive animation, was initially a prosthetic, and the team made changes to its proportions to make it appear larger than life. Jung shared that they took a similar approach to the Bloater as they did with the other creatures, "if we are going to go a digital route with him, then we might as well, similar to some of the other creatures, we might as well change proportions around a little bit, like make the legs look a little bit stronger."   While the Infected army and the Bloater are two of the most impressive animations in the show, it's the attention to detail in every scene that makes it truly beautiful. Lighting played a crucial role in the show's visual appeal, and Jung shared the process of making these lights, stating, "We've stayed pretty true to the on-set lighting. The main light source for these shots was the burning building. They had a burning building on set and that was illuminating the scene. They had massive lightbox obviously on top as well and had flickering fire lights that they placed to beauty light specific beats around the cul-de-sac where Ellie steps, the clickers for example, or the Infected that are pulling the kids from another car."   The team generally stayed true to the lighting that they had initially, with a few instances when they tweaked the lighting a little to make the action more visible. "There are a few occasions where, for example, where Perry gets his head ripped off by the bloater, the child clicker. In some of those cases, we tweaked the lighting a little bit to make the action a little bit more visible. But it was only very subtle changes or deviations from the on-set lighting. We stayed very accurate to it," said Jung.   Jung and Yoo's work on "The Last of Us" is a testament to their skill and attention to detail. The show's animation and visual effects add depth to the world of the game and elevate it to the next level. While it may seem like magic on the screen, it's a long and arduous process to produce each scene. From scanning and creating prosthetics to tweaking lighting and making subtle changes to improve visibility, every detail counts in producing stunning visual effects for the show.   The VFX supervisors' work on "The Last of Us" is not only impressive, but it's also an inspiration to those who aspire to create stunning visual effects for films, shows, and video games.   Watch the trailer here ### Netflix and Jon Spaihts to adapt 'Gears of War' game to live-action film   Netflix has announced that it will be adapting the popular video game, Gears of War, into a live-action feature film, followed by an adult animated series, with potential for further stories. The realistic portrayal of the creature and its movements is made possible by the use of graphics and artificial intelligence technology.   The video has gone viral on the internet, with many people amazed at the level of creativity and imagination on display. It is a testament to the power of technology and the limitless possibilities it offers in the hands of creative individuals.   The Megalodon was a prehistoric shark that lived during the Cenozoic Era, which lasted from approximately 66 million to 2.6 million years ago. It is estimated to have grown up to 60 feet in length, making it the largest shark and one of the largest fish to ever exist. The Megalodon's diet consisted primarily of whales and other large marine animals, and it is believed to have been a dominant predator in the ocean during its time.   Despite its massive size and fearsome reputation, the Megalodon went extinct approximately 2.6 million years ago, for reasons that are still unclear. However, its legacy lives on in popular culture, with many movies, books, and other media featuring the prehistoric shark as a central theme.   Aleksey's animated video is an impressive example of the potential of graphics and artificial intelligence technology to bring prehistoric creatures to life in stunning detail. The video captures the essence of the Megalodon's power and ferocity, making it an engaging and thrilling viewing experience.   The use of CGI technology has become increasingly prevalent in the entertainment industry, with movies, television shows, and video games relying heavily on computer-generated imagery to create realistic and immersive experiences. The technology has also found its way into other industries, such as architecture, engineering, and medicine, where it is used to create 3D models and simulations.   The Megalodon video is just one example of the incredible possibilities offered by graphics and artificial intelligence technology. As the technology continues to evolve and improve, we can expect to see even more amazing creations from the world's most imaginative and creative minds.   In addition to its entertainment value, the Megalodon video also serves as a reminder of the importance of preserving our planet's biodiversity. Many prehistoric animals, including the Megalodon, have gone extinct due to a variety of factors, including climate change, habitat loss, and human activities. It is important to recognize the value of these creatures and to take steps to protect the natural world and its inhabitants.   In conclusion, the Megalodon video created by Aleksey is an impressive demonstration of the power of graphics and artificial intelligence technology to bring prehistoric creatures to life. The video is a thrilling and engaging viewing experience that captures the essence of the Megalodon's power and ferocity.
